The position of Maintenance Superintendent reports to the Plant Maintenance/Engineering Manager and is located at Mt. Holly, a primary aluminum facility of Alcoa and is situated on an old 6,000 acre plantation. The plant is located 20 miles northeast of historic Charleston, South Carolina, near beautiful beaches.
Mt. Holly is the most advanced plant of its kind in the United States, a pacesetter in production efficiency, energy utilization, maintenance and environmental protection.
The plant is an integral part of the Alcoa family, one of the world s leading producer of aluminum. Mt. Holly produces more than 1.5 million pounds of aluminum every day.
The Mt. Holly Proactive Maintenance Process has long been recognized for having one of the best maintenance and reliability programs by organizations such as AT Kearney, Maintenance Technology, Plant Engineering, Hartford Steam Boiler and The Foundation for Industrial Maintenance Excellence NAME Award.
The Maintenance Superintendent will:
* Ensure that EHS is a number one priority by adhering to the plant's environmental, health and safety objectives and philosophies.
* Maintain safety process to assure that all safety requirements and rules are understood and followed, and safety goals are achieved. Demonstrate engagement in the HPI process. Monitor and improve processes, procedures, and equipment to reduce or eliminate safety hazards and risks with a goal of achieving zero OSHA Recordable injuries.
* Manage, direct and aid subordinate personnel in their self motivation to achieve goals and objectives in a timely manner, while continuously striving to improve subordinate skills and department efficiency and effectiveness. Evaluate department personnel and give direction to their performance of duties and career advancement.
* Plan, organize, and manage proactive maintenance and repair of all mechanical, electrical and structural facilities and equipment including crane emergencies, emission control systems, and production process equipment keeping it in like-new condition to ensure operating departments have the maximum equipment availability to produce to desired capacity.
* Manage and maintain the high voltage substation and distribution system to ensure a constant power supply throughout the plant.
* Oversee development, updates and programing of process control systems to improve plant efficiencies and production.
* Assure that all maintenance personnel are well-trained and highly skilled craftspeople. Utilize personnel effectively and efficiently to provide timely maintenance.
* Maintain and foster positive labor relations and communication with maintenance and the various plant departments.
* Communicate with department personnel. Keep personnel updated on all company policies and procedures, and provide timely answers to all questions and concerns.
* Maintain high management standards for operation of the department, evaluate supervisory personnel and give direction to their performance of duties and career advancement.
* Administer apprenticeship and craft training programs to include areas such as: SPC, problem solving, predictive maintenance, microprocessors, PLC s, high voltage safety, hydraulics, pneumatics, calibration and instrumentation, and information handling systems.
* Keep superiors and subordinates informed of department performance. Emphasize work load status and performance to goals.
* Develop a Maintenance budget each year. Control costs and improve efficiency by designing out equipment problems. Achieve cost reduction goals agreed to for specific periods and operate the department as a profit center.
* Maintain a good working knowledge of all trades and regulatory requirements, and communicate these to all department personnel.
* Work with plants and companies research and development programs both sharing our work and considering their successes for our use.
* Participate in professional and community organizations as approved by management that will benefit the community, company and personal development.
* Administer craft hiring process to maintain a skilled and experienced work force.
* Promote integrated work between mechanical and electrical disciplines.
* Ensure mandated regulatory training is 100% compliant.
* Fill-in for department manager as required.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
* Minimum of 6 to 8 years of maintenance management experience in heavy industry utilizing both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
* Has demonstrated a strong ability to plan, organize, and manage proactive maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and structural facilities and equipment in a heavy industrial/manufacturing environment
* Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to work well with others and with cross functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's Degree in Business Administration
* 10 years of maintenance management experience
