ASU ASSISTANT PLANT MANAGER/QCU MANAGER
GASTON, SC

Department: Production Operations
Reports to: Plant Manager/VP Safety, Compliance and Regulatory Affairs (SCRA)
Direct Reports: Operators, Maintenance, Administration personnel

Purpose of the job:
Candidate will be responsible for the front line supervision of plant employees, facilities, and equipment in an Airgas Merchant Gases (AMG) air separation plant. Candidate will also be accountable for the implementation and maintenance of all company policies, work procedures, and local work instructions in accordance with AMG Quality Management System (QMS) and as mandated by the SCRA group.

Duties of Assistant Manager/QCU Manager
> Monitors plant performance
> Assimilates and interprets process data
> Establishes control parameters for plant optimization and effective energy management
> Prepares and interprets production reports, as required by corporate management
> Controls inventories and balances plant output
> Develops and implements local work procedures as necessary to minimize product losses
> Responsible for the repair and calibration of QC testing equipment
> Maintains records of calibration and repair of all QC equipment
> Responsible for training all facility personnel on QMS and process related procedures
> Assists in developing and administering the QMS and ensuring it meets all in-house, government, and customer requirements
> Maintains quality control and quality assurance equipment, including process analyzers and gas chromatographs

> Maintains calibration standards, including inspection, testing and measuring equipment as well as calibration gas cylinders
> Perform routine and non-routine analytical calibrations and adjustments.
> Works with management team to schedule calibration and preventive maintenance programs to achieve plant and company strategic quality goals.
> Assists in the development and administration of comprehensive spare parts program
> Assists in the training and development of other Airgas associates when needed.
> Reads and interprets technical drawings and manuals
> Monitors water treatment systems

Education High school diploma or GED required. Minimum two years of college, technical school, or military technical experience preferred.

Experience Minimum two years equivalent experience operating and/or maintaining a technical process in an industrial setting. Prior management experience preferred, but not required.

Initiative and Ingenuity Requires the use of considerable judgment to recognize and interpret sophisticated instrumentation and make decisions accordingly. Requires the ability to use tools and equipment necessary for repairing and replacing mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment. Requires the ability to use computer programs to effectively analyze, document and track specific initiatives and goals set by management.

Physical Demand Moderate physical effort to handle light and medium weights and occasionally heavy tools and equipment. May occasionally work in awkward physical positions.

Mental or Visual demand Ability to work alone. Requires continuous mental and visual attention to operate equipment, make repairs and adjustments, etc.

Responsibility for damage to equipment Property damage to equipment over $50,000

Responsibility for material or product Incorrect diagnosis of plant trouble conditions trouble or improper repairs could result in considerable loss, in excess of $50,000

Responsibility for safety of others Requires 100% compliance with all Airgas safety policy and procedures, and cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) training and techniques to prevent lost time or serious injury to others.

Responsibility for other workers Trains other employees on plant operations, quality control procedures and the proper techniques of instrument calibration and maintenance.

Working Conditions Light indoor and outdoor manufacturing environment, subject to noise dust, heat, cold. Occasional travel may be required
Unavoidable hazards Exposure to asphyxiating gases, fall hazards are present. Proper PPE required for all job duties.

Other Skills Required
Critical thinking ability to work independently to troubleshoot, diagnose & solve issues with process and plant equipment.
Computer strong skills in computer programs used for process control as well as document and spreadsheet creation and interpretation.
Communication ability to communicate effectively with a broad array of people using both verbal & written tools to build upon and become part of a strong team environment.
Air Separation - A strong understanding of air separation and associated technologies.

Helpful but not required
Water Treatment understand the water treatment principals and equipment.
Refrigeration - A basic understanding of refrigeration systems.
